I stopped working at company A 2 years ago. I kept my 401k in place. I plan to start working again at Company B soon, which has a 401k. Can I keep the old 401k
and start a new one?

Yes, you are allowed to keep the old 401(k) and start a new one at your new employer. You may also be able to rollover the old 401(k) into your new one. Check
with your new employer to see if the plan allows this. You can also rollover the old 401(k) to an IRA. Lots of options.
One word of caution with the old 401(k) -- be sure to keep your old employer notified of any address changes and if you stop getting statements, contact them immediately. You don't want to miss any important communications (including statements) on the plan. |
